Living with asthma symptom has become a common way of life for most asthma sufferers. Adult asthma obviously has the ability to affect a sufferer's way of life but the experts tell us it doesn't have to. Indeed it doesn't. Especially if the proper precautions are taken.

Asthma symptom can be brought on by a variety of triggers. Sufferers who practice good management practice techniques will live a good quality of life where asthma symptom aren't a constant worry. Did you know in the United States alone, over 17 million people are affected by asthma.

Asthma is described in many forms including allergy asthma, adult asthma; even asthma and acid reflux: with varying treatments. More recently, less mainstream treatment for asthma symptom has surfaced such as acupuncture for asthma.

Acupuncture For Asthma

China has used acupuncture treatment for centuries on different types of ailments. Acupuncture for asthma has been effective for a number of years. The World Health Organization identified acupuncture an effective treatment of up to 40 known diseases with asthma being one of them.

Acupuncture for asthma benefits such things as a reduced dependency on drugs. In the US, states have there own regulated laws relating to qualified acupuncture practitioners. Certainly if you are not getting relief from your current treatment methods then acupuncture for asthma provides another alternative.

Allergic Asthma

Allergic asthma affects over 50 per cent of asthma sufferers. It has been described as a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways.

Allergic asthma forms from an early childhood and sufferers are affected by elements such as dust, mold and pollen. The problem of course is those three factors are hard to avoid so physicians will prescribe medication to reduce the incidence of attack.

Certainly asthma is no fun to live with but it can be controlled. Within these pages at AsthmaInfoLine.com we'll provide a library of views and reviews on asthma, asthma symptoms and treatment and news relating to asthma from around the world.

I had an interesting discussion recently on asthma management in fact, the discussion became quite heated. Why? Because the point was made to me that perhaps we are going over the top with awareness programs relating to the effects and dangers of asthma.

My question was "how can you be over the top when it comes to making people continually aware about such a prevalent disease?"

Asthma management can be a chore for many sufferers but the simple fact is by ignoring good management practices a sufferer only increases the risk of having a life threatening attack. Let's examine some basic asthma management tips and techniques.

Monitor Your Breathing

Be aware of your breathing. Simple I know but devices such as peak flow meters are a terrific aid in checking breathing abnormalities. This is a device that is used to measure your best airflow for that day. Simply blow as hard as you can into the tube, and the tick mark will land on the maximum pressure. If it is below 50 percent, that is usually a sign that your breathing is abnormal and you need to better control it.

Don't Ignore Your Medication

Asthma medication was developed for a good reason; to keep attacks at bay. It's folly to ignore taking it. The medicine you take for your asthma depends on how mild or severe your asthma is.

Some doctors prescribe a simple bronchodilator to use before or during physical activity, to open your lungs. If your asthma teeters towards severe, you will have to take both a bronchodilator as well as a steroid inhaler, to help keep your lungs open once they are. Pill forms of asthma medicine are sometimes recommended to supplement the usage of inhalers.

Stay Healthy

Asthma management means living a healthy lifestyle. It's a broad statement I know but just doing some simple things may be all that's required to keep asthma attack at bay. It is important to not smoke or be around someone who does smoke, as this could be a trigger for an asthma attack. Alcohol and other drugs could also be very unhealthy for someone living with asthma. Diet, exercise and refraining as much as you can from cigarettes and alcohol can help you better manage your asthma.

So asthma mamagement basically consists of monitoring your breathing, taking your medication and living a healthy lifestyle. Once you get into the habit of performing these management techniques it becomes instinctive.

There have been a lot of myths and misinformation surrounding asthma over the years. While asthma is a well known respiratory illness, the simple fact is it affects millions world wide and there is no known cure for asthma.

An asthma fact is that many education and management programs have been put in place and by following these programs, ashmatics have been able to lead a better quality of life. Myths like ashtma sufferers shouldn't exercise can be exploded by understanding good management practices, in fact, many top sportspeople have been able to compete at the highest levels by following these practices. Let's explore some of the more common myths surrounding this illness.

Is Asthma All In The Head?

Asthma is not an “emotional” illness or psychosomatic in nature. Even though emotions can sometimes perpetuate an asthma attack, this is not common. This asthma fact is difficult for non-sufferers to understand. An actual physical condition already exists in the lungs. Triggers like emotions, but more commonly allergens, can cause the affected airways to become inflamed and constrict breathing.

Can Asthma Be Cured?

Some advertisements in the electronic media or online will claim that asthma can be cured. This is not an asthma fact, but rather an outright falsehood used to make money. There are many ways to manage asthma, through drugs or treatments, but no cure exists right now. Scientists continue their ongoing research in discovering ways to eliminate this disease but as yet, have only made minor breakthroughs.

Did You Know?

Asthma has only really emerged as a major illness over the past century. In fact, it is still uncommon in some developing countries. Why is this? There are many theories but it's been suggested the quality of indoor air might be a factor. Scientists continue to research just why some people are afflicted with asthma and others aren't and indoor air quality issues could be just one of the significant clues presented to them.

Can Asthma Be Out Grown?

You cannot outgrow asthma; although 50% of childhood sufferers' symptoms will become inactive in high school, these people will always have asthma and the symptoms could re-surface when they are older. This is an asthma fact that is important to remember so a person can remain vigilant in monitoring for symptoms, even if they haven't occurred for some time. As a person ages, it's easier to pinpoint things that can trigger attacks and avoid them, giving the appearance of “outgrowing” asthma.

If You Have Asthma, Forget Exercise

Exercise is important for everyone, especially asthmatics. People with asthma can play sports and lead active lives. This is where it's important to follow good asthma management practice. If you take up a new sport, talk to your doctor first and be sure your asthma is under control. Be sure to talk to your coach or other teammates about your condition in case you do have an attack. Avoiding known asthma trigger areas is will give you a good chance of avoiding asthma symptoms.

Your medical professional can enlighten you on real asthma fact. If you hear information about the disease that may sound a little far-fetched don't hesitate to get the facts from your doctor. Under no circumstances act on any mis-information you hear unless it's factual.

Asthma can be defined as a chronic condition which affects millions of people, young and old, around the world. There has been extra focus on asthma in recent years of it's increased prevalence and climbing mortality rate. It's symptoms include trouble breathing, wheezing, tightness around the chest, chest pain and coughing. In the United States alone, more than 17million people have asthma.

Controlling it effectively is the key to enjoying a good quality of life. Obviously, avoiding pollen laden areas during particular seasons would be helpful but with controlled medication and inhalers, people are managing their lives much better and learning to live with asthma.

This Disease Is Controllable

When you have asthma, you have to take medication for it which will help to open up your air passages and relieve the problems of not breathing. If the problems or symptoms still don’t go away, you have to make sure you go get help with the problem. The best way to make sure you get help is to see a doctor or medical professional as soon as possible.

You can’t just ignore the symptoms of this disease or it can really creep up on you. You will find yourself coughing a lot when you exercise or even when you are resting after exercise. If this happens, you need to take your asthma medication right away. This prevents any attack from becoming dangerous and will control your breathing effectively so that you can continue on with your activity.

Most people with this disease have a shortness of breath that is characterized; when they breathe, a wheezing sound can be heard and it is a sign you have this disease. Many people even complain of tightness in their chest when they are having an attack or episode. Any symptom related to the lungs is usually common with asthma sufferers, so ensure that you are taking care to properly monitor these symptoms and record what you discover. Any evidence or information is helpful when you are combating asthma symptoms.

Don’t Allow Yourself to Be Miserable

It is miserable to live this way. Anyone who has this disease will tell you that. People feel like their lives are limited when they are dealing with the symptoms but if it is controlled, it is easier to deal with. Make sure to watch your children and those you love for symptoms of this disease. Monitoring asthma symptoms after it is diagnosed is a big part of asthma management.

As far as treatments are concerned, alternative medicine for asthma has surfaced as recently. While it has caused great debate, many people have reported favorably after trying certain herbal treatments, relaxation methods and chiropractic treatment. It's not recommended if you have asthma that you "dive" straight in and experiment with these alternative methods. Get proper medical advice first.
